Crompond resident Edinson-Mauro Merino-Meza, 41, was stopped by an officer shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, when he drove past a Yorktown police officer on Route 6 with no headlights on, through a red traffic light, prompting a traffic stop.
During the subsequent stop, police said that Merino-Meza was found to be allegedly driving while impaired, with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent. Merino-Meza was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent, both misdemeanors. He was also cited for passing a traffic light and driving without headlights, both traffic infractions.
Merino-Meza was arraigned and released on $100 bail. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, Feb. 28 to respond to the charges.
